The Wariwa Association was founded in 2013 with the aim of protecting the Mata Atlântica Forest, 60 million years old, which stretches along the Brazilian coast. Its original extent was approximately 1,290,700 km², or 15% of the current Brazilian territory, but after two centuries of exploitation, today only 85,000 km² remain, or 7.3% of its initial surface area. The Mata Atlântica is considered by the global scientific community to be one of the richest ecosystems in the world in terms of animal and plant species and the second most endangered forest. IT IS THEREFORE URGENT TO ACT! This is why we had the heart to create this association, which aims to protect its local fauna and flora, its endangered species, to participate in reforestation and thus, raise awareness among populations and to carry out, with the local community, sustainable projects.
